I can vouch for the effectiveness of having a dog for predator control.
What kind of dog do you have? Depending on the individual dog you can either have one that won't hurt a fly or one that has a huge prey drive. We are sort of inbetween where our dog goes after small game and hogs no problem but understands when another animal is considered part of the family. She has already chased the neighbors cat away from the ducks once. Poor kitty was really just curious and was watching them in the yard but got ran up the fence pretty quick. Then the pitbull runs back to the babies to check on them. It's very cute
