Does anyone have any novice building friendly coop designs with walk in runs, or maybe a split coop design that one side could house large hens and the other side for silkies? I have looked online and havent found many beginner friendly. My husband and I are not builders, but def want something that looks very nice for our back yard. Something in the 6x10 and up size range.

Yes I have been going through those but none I seem to find have plans with them, which I think we would need so we know what we are doing lol! i could not seem to find ANY that had a split type design.

I understand your predicament. It's fairly easy to design something once you've had experience, but daunting if not - bit like flat-pack furniture :D. Maybe try your state thread ? A mentor may be nearby - http://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread#post_3239224

I don't think my husband would have a problem building but just getting plans or putting it together is the hard part for us! My husband does hvac contracting and is very mechanic and builder minded but we just need plans. I found a few but all seem either too small too big or not right for us.

If he works in HVAC, he should have no problem. I used to work in HVAC, and we used to have to design stuff for closets, and trunks for attics.

Get your basic design offline. Take a little paper and draw up your own floor plan. Feel free to use someone elses basic design and add your own personality to it.

Get a few 2x4's from home depot and lay them out in the form of the footprint. This will show you if this is how big you want it to be.

Build up from there. First build your footprint, then build up to the coop. After the coop is done put in the framework for the run.

Build a little, and if you get worried, take a picture or 2 and post them here. We will all help, and give you our 2 bits.

I saw some with the song list and detailed instructions. But I have no clue how to tell you which ones. Just click on the pic you like and see if it has all the details. I found some I want to try that look easy but not sure they are what you are looking for and don't know how to tell you which ones.
