I'm planning on incubating some eggs soon as well as making my own incubator for the first time and I need advice! I want to know everybody's experiences, what worked and what did not? What are big things I need to look out for? Small things? Tell me everything.

My sister didn't have very good luck with her DIY incubator, but I believe she did it wrong. :p I think it had too many holes. Also, she used a digital humidity and temperature monitor, which was absolutely terrible! Lol. It kept messing up on her. (The image below) She wasn't able to keep up with it, so her humidity would always drop really low and her temperature would not stay the same. Okay. I've done some research on it though and we have also figured out that the "too many holes" is a big issue! Lol. After that, I did some research on it and feel like we can just make another one and we'd be good to go.

You need a fan, a heating element of some type, and a thermostat.
Here is my DIY bator 20180407_000707.jpg
I posted a thread under incubation about how i built it. Good luck on yours!

I'm planning on using an old cabinet for mine, would that be too holey?
