DIY Quail Mix

Hi. I am wanting to raise some quail for eggs and maybe meat. See how the eggs go first. I need to do a custom mix feed, not for their benefit but for mine and I'm not sure where to start. i need to avoid wheat, corn, soy and all vitamins typically added to formulated feeds. Can I really just go with a finch mix and supplement with greens, fresh fruit and veggies? This sounds too easy.

Hi they need at least 24% protein as adults and 28% as chicks so finch seed wouldn't be adequate

Would I be able to add a high protein grain to the finch mix to increase it's protein content?

I would go one step further then just a high protein grain and give them live or dried mealworms, like blachdust said they need around 24% to be as productive as possible, so adding some animal protein would help.

It is a good question actually.. I usually just add supplements to the regular food.

You might look into finding a feed that uses fish meal as a primary source of protein.
