DIY Thread - Let's see your "Inventions".

Does anyone have a fancy dropping board holder?

I want to put dropping boards in my small coop, and I need an easy way that I can access them to clean them. Because the door is kind of small (30x30 is not that small, but I'm a big guy) I am looking for a design that I can get the boards out for a cleaning and back in ASAP. This will be especially important in the cold weather.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Pictures GREATLY appreciated.

For What its worth DIY projects often are best done by actually Tinkering.... Taking stuff in hand and Messin with it. MANY new inventions are created out of found objects and Many Tweaks... Linkages for example... Very complicated to define with Mathematics and drafting software... The best way is to cobble up some spare parts and just do them. The best example is the ones involved with Treadle feeders..... Or Chicken pop doors..... You dont know what will work till you give them a try.

Me I cant help explain without doing a sketch.... My words fail me... because I use too many.

Yeah, you can overengineer the heck out of something, but that's no guarantee of it actually working. I come up with very theoretical designs for many things in my hand, but then when actually starting to put things together, I notice flaws in my thinking.

I dont know your space for a dropping board is... But you can do a Poop Hammock two curtain rods that sit in cups with a loose tarp fastened in between. best made of canvas or loose woven material because air will circulate through.... The poo will dry in place. Lift the curtain rods from one end and the whole thing folds up like a taco. haul it out dump it in compost pile and put it back in.... You can rinse it if you want.

the best part about them is you dont need to put any shavings or absorbant in the hammock.

Quote: I've been thinking of something similar come winter, but I'd keep the shavings, less poop would stick to the fabric. I'l also go with something along the lines of wax canvas or some rubberized fabric, the shavings would keep it breathing, but it would be super easy to clean. Something with a teflon coating would be great.

dont over think.... Very little poo sticks... and when it does need to be cleaned all you need to do is hit it with the garden hose on full force. the one pictured below is made of shade cloth about 50 percent... and it came from a Keeping your coop clean blog

I would want something that doesn't soak up water, that would be a bad thing in the winter if it did.
