DIY Thread - Let's see your "Inventions".

I made a six stack of crates, but I just felt they were not quite big enough for my full sized girls and their generous backside!

Before we got an egg in them I started on a bigger and more permanent box set that gave a bit more internal space to our cubby coop.

THAT is beautiful!! Pic from farther back of the outside?

I don't have any of it finished, even though it is, but here are a couple as we were putting it back together (was salvaged from a house being demolished)

At the place we bought it from.

Had to modify a few things, new doors and lower it.

Once I decided to go away from the crates, I started on the external nest boxes.

That lead to the pics above as finished. Just made a wire hoop between the ramp and the run so they can go back and forth.

Salvaged cubby was $150 from the paper, most other materials were also salvaged from builders I approached or had kept from other projects. Just had to buy the MDF facia and the screws.

What a great job of repurposing..... AND the nest box idea is stellar. I love the chicken access door. Can you close it for the night? Or do you have predators that will go in for take out.... I forget what kinds of predators you have in Australia.

We are trying to do a less than hideous yet still muscovy-talon safe pond for our future ducks, so we sandwiched a craigslisted preformed pond liner with 1/4" plastic (to make it rigid) and drilled a hole and installed a shower drain on it. The sealant is still curing, but I should be able to get it in the ground next week!
