Just like humans not all geese 'mate for life'. Many tend to stay with the same mate and may even appear to go through a grieving period at the loss of a mate, but others switch mates fairly readily or may mate with several geese while maintaining a 'favorite'.

While judging a field trial in RI there was a Canada goose killed by the side of I 95 where I exited every morning. The first three days that I passed through there the gander was standing vigil by her body. On the fourth day he was gone - he had given up. It was sad.

Quote:They do form bonds with their mates but don't have as strong as the wild species.
In some cases it can work however Ganders can be quite aggressive during breeding season.
My brown chinese is wonderful however my white chinese is a mean little goose
My geese with the exception of the white chinese gander are great around family
The curly geese are about the same and are called Sebastopol.
