This is my first time keeping Runner Ducks, and at 20 weeks at least one of them has begun to lay. So far it's only been one egg a day, so I don't know if some of them are taking turns or if it's the same duck each day. The egg is smaller than the ones my Khakis & Pekins lay, and it's a lovely soft shade of GREEN!

Do all Runners lay green eggs, or do I have an extra special duck? I am taking half of them to the county Fair on Thurs, I hope to identify this layer so I can be sure to keep her!

A lot of Runners lay green eggs, and they tend to be darker when they're younger and then lighten up as they age. I have some that lay green, some white. If the egg looks basically the same each day, it's probably from the same hen. I find each of my hens has her own distinct egg style. Some are larger, smaller, whiter, dirtier-looking (not dirtier, just with more dinginess), one even lays a funny shaped egg with a sort of dent in the side. I don't know whose is whose, but it's pretty clear they are all different from each other.

Enjoy the eggs. Congrats!

Dont you love it when you know your duck eggs. Mine all lay different eggs, but I just dont know what egg goes with what duck. I get the round ended 1, the long fat 1, the pinky white 1 I know is Fionas, I have 1 that lays an egg with a swirl in the shell and 1 egg is fatter on 1 side than the other. But today when I was washing 2 days worth of eggs there was 2 long thin eggs...I think I have a new layer, so its either Maisey my bad tempered Pekin or my 2 other Dipsy ducks.

Blue (she was supposed to be blue, but is silver) is laying Blue/green eggs
Ally (fawn and white) is laying white eggs
Cadbury (chocolate) is laying funky blue/green eggs (itty bitty smooshed one and this morning a normal sized thin weird shell one that was broken and empty when I got to it this morning)

I have five black and five chocolate runners.

We get eight or nine eggs a day.

Six or seven of them are some shade of green and the rest are tan. So, I don't think that, for example, the black lay green and the chocolates lay tan eggs.

In fact, I saw Funf (chocolate) lay a lovely almost bluish light green egg one morning at 3 a.m. Vier was my first layer and hers are tan.

My friend who has three blue runners says they lay blue eggs.

Mine lay blue eggs - just to be awkward!

I have to say that Olivia hatched 12 eggs of her own and they are various colours 6 boys, 6 girls - someof the babies are pure white although Olivia and her parents are fawn/blue/green.....!

Lots of eggs for us this year from them or maybe I will hatch more babies - the idea of the babies is more appealing to me, after all I only have 16 Runners at the moment......

This is really interesting, because I am getting some ducks this spring and I wanted some with a colored egg so I had posted a link aobut a week ago asking..I originally just wanted Muscovies...Now I am thinking Runners.
