My little blue Silkie, Natasha, just started laying little brown eggs. She also just started squawking like crazy - often around the time she's laying, but other times as well. Will she settle down or is this daily screaming part of her personality? My neighbor does not like the noise and I'm afraid I'll have to give her away.

Hi, Welcome!!!!
Yes sqwaking or clucking loudly when they lay an egg is normal. It is like they need the whole world to know about it. Do you have only one chicken?

I have 2 others - Antoinette is some kind of black frizzle and Eva is a favorelle. They're back yard pets. I love the little silkie, but have been bringing her in the house in the mornings to quiet her down. I live in the center of a small town and have one difficult neighbor who made me get rid of Gertrude (who turned out to be a rooster) last year.

My crazy black Silkie hen, Elvira, screams and sqwacks all the time. It doesn't matter what the deal is. I wonder if she fell on her head or something....

Everyone will be standing around, minding their own business, and Elvira will let out a loud scream and take off down the backyard.

Oh dear. I guess I'll have to take Natasha to meet the neighbors, offer them some tiny eggs and hope for the best!

I haven't noticed her fluffing up or acting broody.

Does anyone know if polish hens are loud? I REALLY want one!

I named my silkie Marsha because all she does is fuss and scream about every little thing. I wanted that bug! I wanted that piece of tomato! You pushed me! It's always Marsha! Marsha! Marsha!
