My japanese bantams ALWAYS hatch out early on day 19.. I learned that the hard way the first time when I was candling an egg right before taking the turner out and putting it on lockdown .. it was the morning of day 18 and the little egg started chirping at me when I shined the light through it! I put it right back in the incubator and it pipped an hour later, I couldn't believe the little guy actually made it!I set five bantam eggs (two OEG and three buff japanese) under a hen on April 14th. Much to my surprise two had completely hatched sometime the night before or early in the day. They were completely dry and standing. So by my count that's 19 days maybe 18.
I have hatched many a chick by both hen and incubator. I have found it not unusual at all for eggs incubated by a hen to fully hatch at day 19. If the hen is one to only come off the nest once a day and stay off only 15 minutes or so a early hatch is not uncommon. This hen was in a dog crate and I let her out once a day to do what she needed to do and she only stayed off the nest 20 minutes at the most.
