I have 12 week old silkies, and I have several that started crowing last week. I have never had my standard chickens crow so early, so I was wondering if I could expect them to lay earlier than the standards.

Yes they generally do. Silkies are a little slower than other bantams.

Not really. It seems breed specific. Some bantam breeds even lay much later and I think I heard silkies are one of those. My oldest japanese bantam hen started laying this week at about 25weeks. Some standards lay quick, some you wait forever on, and the same with bantams.

Thanks for the replies. What I had read from others writing is that silkies are a little slow to lay. The boys strangled crowing cracks me up. They haven't quite got it down.
