Do book editors not proof this stuff?!

Well - she really should have at least tried to verify the info she was going to include in her book... Many old fashioned ways are great, but others can be dangerous. For example, I recently was reading a canning book which was very outdated and the preservation techniques could result in tainted food. Its always best to keep up to date on safety reccomendations, etc. whether its medicating chickens, cooking meat, etc.

I would ask for my money back - unless you are enjoying the book for entertainment

My mother actually bought it. I'm afraid she believes everything in these books. It's scary to me that there are so many people doing the same who will believe what this lady has written.

I think anyone writing in the early 1900's would know that wasn't true. As for the woman that believes it, ask her why, if roosters are fertile only a couple months out of the year, baby chickens are produced all year.

The book was originally self published in 2008.
Either way the information seems suspect. Her inaccuracies with chickens may be a mere speck compared to other suggestions she offers.
