Do breeds that lay less frequently lay the same # of eggs over time?

I'm just curious if anyone knows about this.

My understanding is that chickens are born with their eggs, like humans are. So, do breeds that lay eggs less frequently lay the same total number of eggs (over the course of their lives) that an egg-a-day layer does?
