do broilers need a coop?

This question must be a dumb one, but for the life of me, I can't find a definitive answer. When I Google "portable coops for broilers " I see a lot of open bottom cage things with a covered part for shade/rain protection. So can they just sleep on the ground with no closed coop?

They do need a secure, predator-proof shelter in which to spend the night time hours. They can use low roosts, set just a few inches up off the ground to get them up and out of their poo.

So just a roost under a bottomless cage structure works? No actual coop needed?

As long as the are protected from wind, rain, and predators it should be fine.
