Do chick pecks hurt?

Are silkies still apt to peck a lot if you raise them from chicks?
We are new and thought they'd make a good pet for our daughter, she wants one anyway.
Thankx

I would have to say no......................my 18 month old and my 2 year old nephew just love to sit in front of the brooder and stick their fingers in then the jump when they get pecked then stick their fingers back in

Horsechick...if you're listening to this advice, please consider the source. LOL

PC hates silkies.

There is a type of bird that does hurt when it pecks. They like the taste of
blood and have VERY sharp beaks. They are called Asian Ground Parrots but
in the U.S. we call them Silkies.

That is simply not true about silkies and they are typically very gentle birds. There is the occasional aggressive roo, but just like any other breed. They are for the most part, not pecky.

Definately not peckers, well not in my case, none of mine have ever pecked me not event he roos, though they just kick me which hurts more.

BTW, mdbucks and Purple chicken are still getting used to the idea of silkies being a chicken breed, they still think that they are just feather dusters on legs so take their advice very lightly indeed lol:lau.

oooh, that sounds painful, inuyashalover21! Silkies really have sharper beaks than other breeds, and like the taste of blood! Well, according to PurpleChicken, that is.

I guess it makes sense that Silkies peck hard, since they're the prettiest chicken breed (coughs loudly). Koalas are beautiful creatures as well, absolutely adorable...but they will rip you apart from limb to limb if even the slightest bit annoyed (worked at a zoo for one summer).

LOL at this thread.

Baby chicks pecks tickle, other chicken pecks can vary, rooster pecks can sting a little and my broody hens are the reason I have sacrificed oven mitts and my dad uses welding gloves. We got tired of blood blisters.
