Do chicken coops attract cockroaches?

I just started my chicken coop in May. I hadn't seen any cockroaches before I had chickens. After seeing a few outside at night and finding a couple in my basement, I decided to spray the foundation of my house outside where I saw them hiding. HOLY CRAP! I hit the mother load of nests I think, because cockroaches started pouring out of the cracks!! My fiancé says I am in denial and that the cockroaches moved in because I brought the chickens. Is this true?! Will having a chicken coop automatically bring the cockroaches? I am so freaking out right now!

This morning I found a bunch of dead/dying roaches in the coop. Since I used an insecticide, will this hurt my chickens?! They do not seem interested in eating them in the least. Ugh! This is so disgusting! And my coop is right against the house. Have I inadvertently caused an infestation?!

If you killed the roaches with poison, dispose of them so that the chickens don't eat them.

Roaches hang out where there is food, water, and shelter. If your house if built on a crawlspace or basement, there are probably already roaches there. You simply flushed them out when you sprayed.

The chickens won't attract roaches, but spilled feed and uncomposted poop will. If the coop sits on the ground, it will provide shelter not only for insects but also for mice. Brush piles, leaf piles, and such will harbor roaches and mice.

The first step is good housekeeping.

I see roaches in the coop every night when I check for eggs. Nothing to worry about its all what you get in the wild. We see them in wood plies here all the time. A few get in the house, luckily not more than a few. Using poisons not good to do in your coop or around your birds.

Thanks all! I must have killed them all because I haven't seen another since I sprayed. I just ordered some DE. I'm going to use it around the coop to keep the roaches from coming back.

teach them that they are food. but i wouldn't do it now that you sprayed though

I don't over feed. I underfeed and give them time to find there own feed.
