Do Chickens nails need cliped?

Do I need to do anything to my chickens nails? Do they need to be cliped? or do I just need to put something in there for them to scratch?

I would think that just them being out and scratching around would keep the nails short enough as to not need clipped.

I wouldn't want to try to hold an unruly chicken through a nail clipping!

If they are on wire, or some non abrasive flooring, the nails could get long enough to need trimming. However, scratching usually does the deed........Pop

I clipped mine after I got them-they were kept in wire cages and they are too long.

Now they scratch around all day and shouldn't need it.

You do want to clip them if you are going to bring them to a show. You really dont want the judge mangled when he or she handles them
