A heated base sounds like a good idea. I'm unfamiliar (being both a newbie and a Central Californian). Does it reduce fire risk?

That one is homemade from a Dutch oven. .
My new coop I purchased one. .
This is the third winter with the homemade heated base. First winter for the purchased base. So far so good. GC

No I don't place water at night I give water before they go for roost but throughout night it's important to keep water away so they empty their crop fully
