Do chickens really like windows??

Quote:
Well...that is temperture dependent. A breeze on a hot day feels great!! A breeze on a cold damp day is NOT good. So I think a lot of people (like myself) enjoy the benefits of open windows in the warmer months (plus taking advantage of light and the view), and closed windows in the cooler months. You would still need other ventilation available for closed window weather (up high above roosts)... My coop door is full double paned glass (I have to use a blind on the upper half in the summer time, but it's GREAT in the cooler/colder months), so it goes down to "chicken level." They do enjoy standing or sitting in front of it too... (Salvation Army $19.99). Hope that helps

Thanks so much! I love how helpful everyone is! We added a window behind where I think their roosting area will be. There is also another window at the front where we can probably rig up some kind of ledge for them to sit on. The roosting area is on the back looking out at the corn. I would kind of like to see their little faces in the window when I go out there! I probably should repost with this question but our windows will be like house windows with screens and sliders. Is this going to be a problem as far as predators go? Thanks again.

My windows are sliders w/screens. But I will be nailing hardware cloth over the screened portion next spring (haven't had to worry about it this fall)...That way you can have the windows open all night safely when the weather is warm and take full advantage of the breezes...

I would lose the screens and put up hardware cloth either nailed or screwed to the coop. A regular screen will clog up pretty quickly with dust, dirt, feathers, spider webs, and anything else that floats or blows around in the air greatly reducing your airflow in the coop. In the summer months your chickens will need that air movement to help them stay cool!
