Do chickens see colors?

Mine definitely had a preference for the white cereal over the brown cereal:

And were especially interested in letters:

And I'm amazed how they can pick up the tiniest grass seed from the ground:

I'd heard that a chicken's favorite color is red (yes, my tomatoes got a going-over) but I wasn't sure if picking objects from the ground was partly a color thing or some other kind of hard-wired discernment. What prompted this question is seeing all the pictures of coops, inside and out, and how many are painted lots of different colors. Just wondered what effect these colors have on chickens and if they appreciate them as much as we do! A really interesting study would be to see if and how color affects egg production. I could be the control - my coop is all wood inside
