Hey everybody...

All chickens were fine this morning... early this afternoon my wife saw one of our older (about 3 years old) ameraucanas chickens, was laying on the ground with her head down. She can get up and move if she wants but she clearly does not feel well. We moved her inside out of the rain and gave her food and water. She has not eaten the food we gave her. My wife checked inside the vent about an inch or two and did not feel and egg. We left her alone and came back to find a large wet spot with some yellow food in it. We don’t know if it is vomit or poop. Any ideas?

Yes, chickens can vomit. Our RIR, who passed a few days ago, started vomiting. It usually means an obstruction somewhere inside, where the fluid builds up. It could also be poop, our RIRs vomit was clear. It could be mucous in the poop, but I could be wrong. Hope everything’s ok with your girl! :hugs

NO, chickens cannot vomit. When liquid comes out of their crop, it’s because of an impaction and they cannot get the food down to the stomach - it piles up and ferments which is sour crop. Once in the stomach (or gizzard), it cannot be pushed back out.
