Ok, Crazy question, but it's worth asking just to get a few responses. I ran to the poultry yard this evening because a duck was pitching a fit like one of my dogs had pinned it. When I got there, sure enough a Cayuga duck was pinned in a corner, but not by a dog....by two young, amorous Australorp roosters. I guess practice makes perfect.

But it got me to thinking....are chicken/duck crosses possible? I'm sure the offspring wouldn't be viable to hatch, but would it be possible for a rooster to fertilize a duck egg or a drake fertilize a chicken egg? Or Turkeys? Or Guineas? Or any of the 50 Frankenpoultry possibilities?

Can't wait to read the responses.

Thanks,

A male duck should never be with chickens to mate. they have a different anatomy and can kill a chicken. I do know that guinea /chicken mixes are possible. They are sterile hatches.

As cool as a real life Turducken would be, there's a reason we haven't seen a naked neck barred malard Turducken anywhere. Despite looking really similar, genetically all these birds are very different. Not only are they all different species (Gallus gallus domesticus, Anas platyrhynchos, Meleagris gallopavo, and Numida meleagris respectively) the only genetic relationship they have is with the Class of Aves. Sorry this was science heavy but what it shows hopefully is that no, it's impossible to have a cross between these species.
