Do cockerels eat considerably more than pullets?

We culled our only cockerel and food consumption by the remaining flock of fourteen is about 3/4 of what it was, both their regular grain and treats.

Was he really eating that much? Is that typical? He was twelve weeks old and dressed out to 1.5 lbs (.68 kg) so it's not like he was a large bird.

Roosters are definitely more active than hens so though I can't say I've ever noticed one way or the other as far as food consumption, it goes to just figuring the more active they are, the more they eat.

The only other thing I could think of is pretty far-fetched, but if that was your only rooster and the hens liked him, then could they be having a bit of depression that he's gone?
