Do crows go after 7 week old chicks?

I was kind of wondering about that myself this morning. I saw one this morning in our cherry tree (no where near our chicken coop) fighting with some birds. I didn't think they would but was not real sure.

Yes crows are evil!

My mom lost 3 CXs to them and had to put a net on her run to stop them! My sister has lost many to them because she free ranges. They mostly go for the 12 weeks and younger chicks though. I really don't like them as they kill way more then they can eat... ugh horrid things

We have lots of mockingbirds in our area and they are very vigilant about driving crows away. The crows land in the tops of our trees but don't stay there long because they get bombarded and driven away by the mockingbirds. We love to sit and watch them guard their territory!

Thanks to everyone for the comments. I'm standing in my yard, torn between making a tractor first or covering the coop/run which is a converted large doghouse and dog kennel, which has a 6 foot chain link fence with a chain link kennel door...hmmm what to do...I have pvc piping and fencing for either one but not both at the moment-so one comes first. Its so sad, the chickens will not come out of the coop now since the attempted murder, which is fine with me for the moment til I give them a safe place out in the yard.

Yes, yes yes! I lost five baby silkies (3wks old) to crow(s). Chicks were outside on the grass in a covered wooden box. I thought it was safe to leave them for awhile and returned to find cover off and leg parts left behind. Crows kept flying low and checking for more many days after. Finally gave up when they didn't find anymore vulnerable chicks. They are opportunists and will steal food wherever they find it (including other bird nests). Tragic lesson learned the hard way!
