Do Ducks Get Fleas

As we ventured out with little Turbo, our Muscovy duckling, yesterday, the thought crossed my mind - Will he get fleas?

Our dog Munk has fleas this time of year every year until we treat him that is. It seems the fleas are anxious to board a warm blooded vessel.

So ... the question maybe seem rather 'dumb' but should I expect Turbo to transport the little beggers as well, while he is going in and out in early childhood training. hmmmm.

Mine haven't. And we have had some flea troubles in the last few years (now resolved, yay), and I have not had to worry about the ducks. I recall a vet telling me it would not be a problem for them.

It may be important, though, for Turbo to be able to swim daily.

Awe sounds good to me. These things that pop into my head, being a newbie at farming, may or may not be important - but may as well ask. I'm assuming if the ducks were to get fleas they would react the same as cats and dogs by scratching etc. He is not doing any of that so we may be good

I like the idea of Turbo swimming as well. I introduce him to the idea of 'playing' in his water within the first week of his life. Had a tiny little paint roller pan so he wouldn't slip and he went up and down very excited. Being his momma he followed my finger's lead

and willingly tried a little dunk or two. His water bowl is his obsession at the moment, even more than food and he sits soaking in the residual water happily. He loves water - go figure - he's a duck. When his feathers come in, I won't worry so much about him getting cold while wet.

It is an interesting journey this farming stuff
