Do ducks go to BED at night like chickens?

Alright - this gives me a lot of hope.

Hey! I had no idea they sleep on one leg...thought they laid down.

I have a lot to learn

OK...Lets Go = Bed Time

Are your ducks being raised with the chickens? I have 1 Pekin and 3 chickens. The duck is the head honcho. She takes the lead every night toward the coop. She's first in - first to get the goodies and first in my heart. Too bad she's such a big pooper. She lays me an egg every single day, faithfully. She's a cutie... But she thinks she's a chicken. She won't go in the pond. I placed her in the pond this evening and she came out as fast as she could. No way Jose is she getting in that pond.... Dumb duck....

That is too funny. You can't tell me they don't all have personalities. One of my three likes the water, but not as much as the others. I look at him in the bathtub and he is bored and really would rather not be there

At about noon, after their daily, morning swim in the pond, ours stand on the big, flat rocks on the rim of the pond and go to sleep standing on one foot, with their head tucked under their wing/over their back.

At night, they sleep lying down, with their head tucked under their wing/over their back.

I go and put my chickens in at dusk, they are all in bed, but my 4 ducks are out swimming and partying!. I open the gate and say "bed time you lot" and the waddle in to their pen and say goodnight !!Then Ella ,my pekin, quacks very loudly and indignantly until I leave.

Mine head into their house as soon as it gets dark. I only showed them once and that was it. Used to be my Rouen hen that led the mallards in, now it's my Rouen drake. I go out and close the door and that's it. Now my chickens are another story. I have a light that goes on in their coop at around dusk and goes off about 2 hours later. I put it in, not for egg laying, but because they would get caught outside in the dark and just huddle there shivering until I came out to shoo them in. Now I go out and get them in and they have an hour or so to settle in, have a snack and then find their spot on the roost.

I did have the ducks & chickens all fenced in together till my Golden Cascade Drake kept raping one of the chicken hens. Only the same white & black chicken all the time. So the chickens(3 hens) started going over the fence/free ranging in the neighbors walnut orchard. Then I noticed the 3 hens went up in a walnut tree, on a kinda low branch & would sleep there. Only the Rooster would be roosting in the little coop. I would still find 1 or 2 eggs in the nests where the chickens would roost. I fenced the chickens a different section with plenty of room to free range but, still next to the ducks. I have a good sized corner(in the fenced area) all covered with new tarps and lots of clean hay, a wire cage with hay inside it & on top of it. I put a shelf with hay over the top of the cage and a lil bakers rack with 3 shelves & hay for them to nest and roost in. There is always food & clean water. The tarps rap all around & hang down 3/4 of the way in front but all supported/not flapping in the weather. No rain gets in or under, and there are about 10 or so eggs in the very back in a nest. I did this all by my self, took a while in the rainy super cold weather(with Many swear words). My niece crawled inside and told her mom that it was super cool in there, looked like a fort. After all this stress & hard work to satisfy these birds, the stupid chickens at dusk still fly back up the tree to sleep since 1 goes the other 2 follow, only rooster stays. Snow, sleet and rain chickens sleep in tree, back to eat at day light. The GC Drake, he continues to stalk the chickens and sleeps next to the fence/chickens in the rain & snow. The 2 chicken hens go in by the ducks, just not the white & black hen. ~sorry, I Wasn't trying to make this look like a chicken post. Julie
