Do ducks lay eggs forever?

Muscovy are derived from wood ducks whereas all other domesticated ducks are derived from mallards.

As far as I am aware, wood ducks have not been classified as geese or anything other than ducks
if you look at the native coloring muscovy dont line up with wood ducks but to an extent wood ducks line up with mallards.
given that there are very few to no documented cases of goose muscovy hybrid but that there are plenty mallardXmuscovys they are obviously closer to ducks.

The coloring isn't an indication!!! It's genetics that have determined that Muscovy are wood duck derived!

I recently read a Chinese study that found that Muscovies are indeed ducks, but their origins are still largely unknown, being a very old breed that was domesticated a long time ago in South America. But they aren't mallard derived - that much is known. And, apparently, theh don't have a very diverse gene pool.

I'll see if I can find a link. Really I interesting stuff. And COMPLETELY off topic.

"Scholars such as Shi-Yi Chen and colleagues and Jing Sun and colleagues have found only 4-6 haplotypes, with simple haplotype components and low genetic variability, leading them to conclude that most of the Muscovy ducks they had access to—from several different populations around China—probably came from a single domestication event, in South or Central America.

However, I found a paper on the NIH website that found "The results showed high haplotype diversity (0.800 ± 0.023) among Nigerian Muscovy duck populations with 91 distinct haplotypes for the nuclear DNA CYP2U1 gene but low (0.266 ± 0.033) for cytochrome b with 31 haplotypes."

That's a reference to the study. I don't think I can link the study because it's through a journal subscription I have (yay, pay walls).

My ducks are 7.5 and 8.5 years old and still laying eggs. Though less than they were. Last year, when they started the season at just over 6 and 7 years old was the first year that they started really slowing down. Though I did get eggs most days during the summer.

Until they were 3--4 they barely even took a couple months off for winter break and two ducks out of four didn't take a winter break at all! Mine are mallard derived.

Bring on the henopause please!
