Do ducks need a coop?

I am thinking of getting ducks next Spring. I have a small flock of 20chickens now, and they share a coop. If I get ducks (I'm thinking only 4) will they have to have their own coop? or can they share with the chickens? What kind of set up should I have for them? I'm starting to research now, so I'll be prepared for next year.

They can share. Some people keep them separate, but lots of people keep them together. If you are only getting four, I wouldn't think it a big deal for them to share.

Are you getting adults or ducklings?

I'm preparing for ducklings. My friend has some now, all it took was for me to hold one, and that was it. Hooked! I have to wait until next year though. I just got my last 5 out of the brooder, and out of the sunroom. I need a break from the babies and to prepare for the winter. My friend keeps her ducks, chicks,turkeys and geese all together. I suppose I'll keep them in a brooder in the sunroom, then gradually introduce them to the flock next year. So far the group has been pretty good with the younger chicks, bunnies, cats and dog-and vice versa. I have to go in stages, as not to overwhelm the DH.

You have to be gentle with spouses. They spook easily.

They will be fine. Waterfowl are messy, but so rewarding. My ducks used to share a coop with guineas. The guineas roosted up high and the ducks slept on the floor (under the poop board).

I house all mine together, chickens, geese and ducks, they do fine!

I don't keep mine together. I use dog houses as shelters for my calls, but they very rarely go in them.

I guess the cochins will have to make room for the ducks, they like to be on the floor too!
