Does the duck house need windows? they'd be locked in from about 9PM to 7PM....just wondering if they need windows to see outside or not? (windows does not mean ventilation...thats separate).

Thanks!

No, ducks do not need windows, at least, I've never heard that they do. My ducks have a little house without any windows, and they're fine.

Actually, ducks do need windows.
They like to see what's going on out there!
Just make sure the plexiglass is on secure and there's no heavy draft :).

I would say if you want them to stay sane, yes on the windows. They are incredibly smart. The smarter the animal, the higher chance of them becoming neurotic if theyre cooped up like that.

I think you meant 7 a.m.? Just during sleeping time? Actually my ducks are the last ones to bed and the first ones up. I would think they would be ready to come out earlier than 7 a.m. You might want to give them a means of seeing what is out there. I know my ducks prefer to sleep on the uncovered end of the coop and only go under the covering when it is cold.

I like having windows.. it helps with natural light and frankly will provide warmth in colder months of coarse if you in the land of the super hot that may not be needed.

My barn for my ducks has 3 windows..

Ours has windows. Covered with plastic for now- but uncovered and just screen for summer (hot hot hot). Although we did it for ventilation. We will be letting our ducks out later morning as well- my duck books say to do that for laying ducks because otherwise they might lay all over the yard or even the pond. :| LOL I don't want everyday being an Easter egg hunt. I would think a window would be nice though. :)

Mine do not have windows and they are fine.

one of my duck houses has no windows, the other has a skylight instead of windows. our Pekins have lived quite happily in a home without windows.

My coops duck/chicken have windows but not so they can look outside only for venting of air flow. in the winter months windows are never closed, but only top half is open in the summertime bottom half is open and we are adding more windows for fresher coops. Theres a book called Fresh Air Coops which is awesome by the way that opened my eyes to how important fresh air is inside our coops. Only my chickens get to see outside and only because they are roosting. Plus the extra benefit of outside lighting too. in the form of Sunshine.
