do first time layers lay everyday?

yesterday two hens laid us an egg! today only one laid an egg my other girl did the song and spent a long time in her spot but gave up after some time and joined the other girls. Do new layers lay daily? thanks

I have three new layers...they haven't been consistent. Mine have also behaved like they are laying....but nothing. From what I have read on other posts, it can take about a month to get in a groove....

They are not consistent when they first start laying. My Golden Comet laid a beautiful, double yolk egg and then the 2nd night, she dropped a soft shell in the coop. She was doing very well until I went out of town & while my husband was taking care of them, she did not lay any the entire time that I was gone! They can be very sporadic.

I think it all depends on the chicken and the breed some don't lay every day anyway
