Do French Quail have another name they are more commonly referred as?

My friends recently got some French Quail, and I was wondering if French Quail were the same kind of thing as another "breed" of quail. I hope I'm not to confusing, I just would like to know if there is another name for French Quail. I've never heard about it before, and I can't seem to find anything about them on the computer. If they breed them I might get some of their eggs, and I would like to know what I would be getting!

Thanks!

I'm very new to quail but will take a stab at it and u would probably get more replies if u had a pic of these. I had done alot of research on quail before choosing the breeds and varieties I chose and never came across a breed of quail named French Quail. My guess would be they are gold Coturnix quail which is a type or color of Coturnix quail. Haven't done the research but maybe that color mutation in the cots originated or was developed somewhere in France. I have heard mention of a color variation called a French Buff or French Manchurian which is a slight variation in color as what u would see commonly but if I remember correctly, think I had read that they do not breed true.

I have never heard of French Quail, that's a new one for me. Probably a new name for a breed and colour that's been around for ages and someone's just trying to put a new spin on it. if you can get a picture someone on here will tell you what they're really called :)

I'll see if she can send me a picture - they are babies right now, do you think it would work? Or should I wait until they are full grown?
