Do Geese Make Their Water Muddy Like Ducks Do ?

Hi all

The title is basically my question. Everyone who has ducks knows that ducks can turn a water dish into a mud puddle in a matter of minutes, are geese the same way or since they are more more of a vegatarian than ducks, do they not rumage through the dirt and collet mouthfuls of dirt that they rince out in the water like ducks do ? I understand they would be just as messy as far as playing and splashing in the water, but I'm wanting to know if they get dirt in the water from their mouths the way ducks do ?

mine do
I change the water in their trays & paddling pool
an hour later, it's all brown & muddy
my geese like to poke at mud puddles, get themselves all covered in mud, face & all (very cute actually)
then they'd wander over to the water trays and paddling pool
have a good old splash around, wash themselves clean
then go do it all over again

yep, they will dig right next to the bucket and put it in the water. Carry sticks, rocks and everything else they find over to their bucket. Good fun they are

What good is it to have water and not play mud pies with it! Or to go play in the mud and not get in the pool to clean off the fun just had...

Sorry, I have the same answer. Mine are not quite as messy as the ducks, but they are a close 2nd.

I have four geese and none of them are very bad on making their water dirty. I do find rocks in the kiddie pool but mostly mine seem to keep it clean... most of the time anyway. I will admit though that sometimes after a heavy rain a couple of them will play in the mud and any that sticks to them will end up in one of the kiddie pools. I haven't seen any of them carry dirt to the ponds like my ducks do though. There is one gander I have that likes to carry food to swish in the pool but never dirt. Now my ducks can muddy a pond in about 5 minutes...

My geese are not even close to as messy as the ducks. I use empty crystalyx tubs as water buckets because the ducks aren't tall enough to reach in them. As long as the tubs are far enough away from their grain, the water will stay clean for a very long time.

Same goes for the pools. Put them in on a low deck with good drainage, and the water will last longer. What they don't splash out, anyway.

Ducks are by far messier than geese! I can fill up the duck's pool and in less than a minute my perfectly clean ,clear pool is black/brown. *sigh* The Geese do not get near as dirty (most of the time ; ) as the ducks, but will turn their kiddie pool into a icky, brown mess with sticks, bits of plastic, hay and all sorts of things floating in it. Silly geese
