Do goats need to be neutered???

hello! We have two male Pygmy goats and are wondering if they need to be neutered or mate with a female or if it is fine to just let them be. ??? These are our first goats if you cannot tell lol. Any advice is greatly appreciated

Without neutering they will get smelly, act demonic, and probably aggressive, my 13 boys are all neutered, done around 8 weeks, but have done it as late as 2 years. Your choice, but I would do it. It makes a more pleasant goat.

Buck goats need to be neutered unless, of course, they are being used for breeding. Uncastrated males are NOT suitable for pets. They are smelly and have, umm, unseemly habits.

Thank you for the replies! That definitely explains some of the "weird" things they've been doing lately:/ guess I'll be getting them neutered.

I raise goats for meat. If you do not casterate the buck before you plan on eating it, the smell associated with a male goat gets in the meat. Very gross, we learned the hard way !!!!!

Lol. Yes that is gross but it may just be the least gross thing about an intact buck.
Try to explain to the children why the goat keeps urinating on its own face and drinks it.

I wish someone would explain that to me. I never did figure out why they do that. However, I have once or twice seen a bull spray his head. Maybe that bull spent too much time with the bucks.

It depends on what they will be used for if they are just pets i would neuter them because they will go into rut and get stinky. I once known a goat that was neutered and was mean and when we had goats for milk we had a buck that that was not neutered and was very friendly and sweet but he was stinky it also depends if he has horns or not if he does have horns i would neuter him just to be safe also if he was bottle raised he will be more friendly than if he was raised with his mother i guess it just depends on the goat
One more thing make sure you have VERY GOOD FENCING goats CAN and WILL find a way to escape
