I was told by someone that guineas will protect the flock against some sort of animal, I forget what kind they said. Is this true? Am I making any sense? (it's late and I'm tired)

They don't 'protect' in the sense you are most likely thinking. They sound an alarm, like a rooster would do only louder. Eventually the chickens learn that this means to hide, either that or they get eaten

However, they have been known to kill snakes, so I guess that could be considered 'protecting'.

my 4 chase feral cats like no tomorrow so yes they can protect chickens.

Yes guineas are a little to brave they will run a fake charge at a dog& get to close. Watched them circle around a hawk perched on a stump Bold & dumb is a guinea.
