I just saw my australorp mix hen mount my barred rock hen just like a rooster would do.

The barred rock was sitting on the ground and the australorp just came over and got directily on top of her.

they are both the same age. 1 year.

both have been laying eggs for months (both layed an egg today)

has anyone ever seen or heard of this kind of behavior?

Here, in the United States, we don't allow chickens to marry.

My girls never marry, they often have favourite partners, though, and 'crawl' with their bellies almost on the ground up to the favoured consort.

My most feisty hen, who has just reared a brood, looked every bit like a rooster when one of them decided she was ready to rejoin the harem and tried to mate with her. Hackles up, striking out....then jumped on his back just like a rooster herself. He made a VERY sharp exit.
