Do Hens Lay in the morning or at night?

When do hens lay? or does it matter?

They won't lay at night, or at least after dark. Mine tend to lay between 9 am and 1 pm. Of course that varies depending on the time of year.

Mine start in the morning, but some of them will lay into the afternoon.

It's kind of cyclical. Start in morning, then next day a little later, and then later again the next day. It continues until it gets too late and they won't lay that day (skipped day). Then the next day it starts in the morning again.

My hen started laying about 3pm and now she lays around 8am. I dont think they would ever lay after dark, but late afternoon is believable

I have 1 laying and all 5 eggs have been between 7 & 9 AM

All of mine lay between 10 am and 3 pm daily.

I agree with the other posts. My birds lay at all different times too. The latest egg that was layed was around 8pm. Another BYC Member posted that one of his birds layed at around 9pm once.
