I think my chicken Lilly PMS about 1 week once a month and this is the week she gets mean she picks on all 3 of the other chickens including Phoenix the head chicken you look at her and she fluffs up and screams at you if you or dogs or anything gets with in pecking order you get pecked she is a total beeouch she is still laying eggs and eats normal everything is normal other then her horrible bad mood she is in, dose anyone else have hens that do this? I know my Phoenix will get this way once and while but it only last a day or two. My buff oprhington never ever is in a bad mood and my little bit she is in the bottom of pecking order is a love always. Just my leg horns and Lilly is the worst and more often

If hens did have pms they would have it every day. God that would suck. But considering they're not mammals it can't be the reason. Sounds like she's just trying to keep everyone in line and get herself to the top of the pecking order.

In a way of speaking they do have hormone changes like we do. Yes, they lay daily, however they have hormone surges. They go broody, they molt, they come off broody. Those are some of the hormone changes. They also have stronger ones at the beginning of spring and less as fall approaches. It is not a dumb question, and good for you for noticing the changes in your chickens....!!;);)

Makes sense to me, my barred rocks have gotten crazy since it started getting warmer. they attack each other and the other birds. Some days we have peace and some days I find new wounds or bitten combs-it's crazy . I keep hoping this is just a phase because if it isn't, my chicken days will end with the 4 I have. I'm afraid to add new birds. LOL

I'm kinda new to all this, but from what I've been told at the feed stores, some species of chickens do get nasty when their confinements are rather small. According to them, "the bigger the space, the less they'll peck at each other". Hope this helps?
