Do hens usually lay eggs soon after bringing them home?

Do hens usually start laying eggs the next day after bringing them home? I had heard that they don't, due to stress. I was surprised when 2 out of my 3 white rocks laid an egg today.. Just brought them home last night. Pleasantly surprised, but surprised! lol

I have had it go both ways. I got 3 hens that took almost 2 months to start laying again and then I got 2 more that gave me eggs the next day and never stopped.

there are alot of thing that can happen. it all depends on age, breed and enviroment they cam from and going too.

i had some 1 year old black copper marans take 3 weeks then started laying again. they had no supplementle light where they came from. i started them on 17 hours of light as soon as i got them.

also blue copper marans from diffenent place only take one week to lay again. same with lighting.

I've also seen it go both ways, with the same group of chickens--brought some layers home one night & the next day 1 laid an egg & kept laying until she went into molt, but another one didn't start laying again till almost a month later.
I have a couple that after new birds are introduced, they won't lay for a couple of days.
Odd things, chickens...

Those eggs may have been on their way "down the chute." Don't be surprised if the machinery gets turned off for a while after today or tomorrow.

I brought 10 new hens home last Saturday. Within 2 hours of them being here I had two eggs. Got six today from those same 10. You never know with chickens.

We brought home a dark cornish and an EE. We brought them home in the afternoon and the next day had two eggs. We have gotten 7 eggs/week out of the dark cornish since we got her. She skipped two days in that time, but laid 2 in a day later in the week to make up for it. The EE has consistantly laid 5-7 eggs/week, usually 6/week. Through two blizzards and two predator attacks. Nothing has stopped these girls.

I know this is not normal, but it does happen I guess. I keep trying to tell my mom when the other girls start laying, it may not be like this. She says, ok we will have 10 chickens, so we will get 10 eggs/day. Cause we get 2/2 now. I am like, that is not normal, chances are that wont happen lol.

If the move was gentle and uneventful and if they enjoy their new home and all, they can sometimes not miss much of a beat. See what the next few days bring. If you continue to get eggs, I'd say they are contented and all is well. Most full bodied hens will skip a day in three anyhow. That part would be entirely normal.

so i am quite pleased
