I had two large breed roosters and had to keep them seperated. I finally sold both, since they would over mate with my tiny silkies. Will my free ranging hens be o.k.? How should I care for them now?

A rooster provides for fertile eggs and guards the hens. A good rooster earns his keep every time he sound his warning call of danger. This is particularly good when free ranging. Your hens will lay the same amount of eggs without a rooster being present. Not all breeds are aggressive. I'd suggest you get a small silkie rooster or another nonaggressive bantam breed. My Phoenix roosters are great-I have many roaming the yard with little serious aggression and no overbreeding.
