Do I DARE ask...does anyone incubate without a hygrometer???

I DO!! I don't see any point in a hygrometer, I have a R-COM 20 digital incubator and all I have to do is keep water topped up in it every few days and it monitors the humidity in the incubator

Well...I haven't bought one yet...and I have eggs in the incubator. When I candle, I can tell they are developing. I was just thinking, "Is it necessary, since hens don't use hygrometers in the coop?"

Any experts care to provide teaching/offer ideas on my thinking here?

I dont use one. I keep a big tub of water in front of the fan, & at hatch time I put a bowl of water in the bottom inside the hatch tray. My hatch rate stays plus or minus 80 %. ( except thru last years power outage for 3 days due to an ice storm.)

I have 2 flukers in there...but I don't think they work. And it is so dry here even with the water topped off, the humidity never gets over 35% or so.

I am far from an expert but IMHO...Hens dont use hygrometers because its a natural process for them...We However are playing Mother Nature by incubating and I feel as any guide to doing it properly to ensure a good hatch rate is helpful. That is why I use one.
Taylor...so you said it monitors the humidity in the bator? What is it? Sorry to ask for clarification but it confused me?

I only use one in the winter. Our central heat dries the air really bad so I NEED it during cold months to get a good hatch.
