Do I have a ROO???

hmm, didn't even know you could have that done with chickens. I had to look up what that meant :)
I probably would only go that route as a last resort if I couldn't find anyone that would take him in (if it is a "him")

Thank you!
By that point, it's probably too late to caponize. Did you also read what the procedure is? Here is a pretty informative thread on the procedure.

I will not caponize my roosters, but I live on a farm so I can have as many as I can handle. Personally, if you are not allowed roosters, I would just move him along to someone who can and find your pullet another friend. The sooner the better in my opinion - I don't think pecking order is quite as big a deal when they're younger.

Thank you for that info. I only looked up what it was, I hadn't looked up the actual details until I read your post.
I would love to start looking for a new place for my chicken but I would hate to split them up if it really is a hen. I am keeping my fingers crossed!!

How many chickens are you allowed? Can you add one or two more, so when your cockerel does start crowing your pullet isn't left alone while you look for a flockmate for her? If he doesn't crow, the worst that would happen is you have another chicken or two. (Which isn't all bad anyway, because you'd still have more than one if something happened to one)

My family and friends LOVE it when I have more eggs than I need...

You can also freeze them (not whole) for winter use when your supply runs low.

Wow, didn't know you could freeze them! Good info in that thread. Thank you :)
I tried it for the first time last year. I will do it again this year. My mom and I make angel food cake from scratch, and she even goes so far as to just freeze egg whites so she can make it in the winter. I haven't tried it, but her cake turned out great last January!
