Do I have a secret drake?

None appear to be drakes. As @chickens really, has stated an egg must be incubated for many days before an noticeable embryo is evident.

Yes I am well aware of this and as stated multiple times, this has possibly actually happened due to a mishap with my family collecting and using eggs after being away several weeks.

I don't know what the bird life is like in Australia... Is it possible a neighbor has a wandering drake, or even that there's a wild drake visiting from time to time? Other than that, sorry if I missed it, but how many duck eggs do you get per day?

I don't think our neighbours have ducks. I know our closest neighbour doesn't have any poultry, the other neighbour might have ducks (not to my knowledge though) but their house is a good 1km from our house...

We do have a small water spring at the very bottom of our 30 acre property where wild ducks hang out, but in 20 years living here I've never seen them come up near the house where our pet ducks are. Our ducks do free range during the day though, so perhaps they're wandering closer to the spring than I thought?

On average we get 2 eggs a day, occasionally we get 3 a day.

That occasional third egg almost rules out that one of your birds is a drake. I'd be eyeing the wild water fowl. And if your girls are mixing with them, I'd incorporate a regular inspection for mites, lice, etc. Thirty acres isn't huge to wild birds, you may have a Casanova that comes to visit. lol

Wow, well it will be very interesting to see whether the egg I set under a hen tonight actually grows or not!

We do check for mites/lice etc regularly, especially at this time of year. My chickens always seem to get mites in summer so all the birds are treated for mites regularly throughout the summer months
