Looking for advice. My 2 year old black copper marans is acting fine. Eating and drinking normally. Still laying every other day. I spend at least 15 minutes in the coop every day watching my chickens so I'm sure there's no change in her behavior.

Yesterday, I saw her lean over to to peck at something on the ground and some clear fluid came out of her mouth. I've been replaying what I saw in my head all day. Is this the beginning of a problem? I'll physically examine her today when I get off work. What should I look for?

Sometimes chickens drink too much water and after awhile they might regurgitate a little. I wouldnt worry about it too much. As long as she is eating, drinking and acting like a chicken should, there's nothing to worry about.

I just observed her for 30 minutes. She seems fine. I didn’t see her eat but she was drinking. I did feel her crop and it’s maybe a bit bigger than usual. I’ve separated her and placed her in the large brooder that’s inside my coop. I put her in there with her sister. It’s inside the run separated with mesh so she can still see the other chickens. I don’t see any diarrhea inside the larger coop, but want to make sure I’m not missing anything.

I do have coconut oil. Would it hurt to give her some? I can either freeze or soak up some bread with it.

She and her sister are my OGs. I want to keep them around for as long as possible.

Just check her crop early in the morning when it should have emptied overnight. I would let her out with others, and be out side to check on her early. Or if she is in the crate, and if her crop is mostly empty in morning, let her out with the others.

Thought I’d post a quick follow-up. My hen is perfectly fine. I think I probably over reacted because I experienced my first hen death a few days before. I believe she died due to an over zealous cockerel trying to mate her but I was worried about illness in my flock.
