I have 5, 7-month old pullets and a roo in one of my pens. 2 of them are EEers (1green, 1 blue). About 3 weeks ago, I stopped getting blue and green eggs.
My question is : what would enter the coop and just steal blue/ green eggs and leave the brown ones? And leave no trace behind? And not bother the chickens?
I thought 1) rat... but why only the colored eggs?
2) snake... but the only time I've seen a snake in the coop, they have gone after all the eggs and are still digesting when i get out there. And again, why only the green/ blue eggs?
3) my neighbors... so I put a padlock on the coop gate but am still missing only the colored eggs.
Do I have a egg thief? Or did my young, healthy, non-molting hens just decide they needed a month long vacation? And how can I find out?
I dont have access to a trail camera... and it's been raining too much to put down flour. Any suggestions?
