I purchased 3 chicks from Donn Maynard six weeks ago, an India Blue Black Shoulder, an India Blue Pied split Bronze, and an India Blue Silver Pied.

When I first got them, the little Silver Pied was mostly yellow with just a small "shadow" looking spot on his/her lower neck and shoulder region, now as he/she grows feathers, I'm noticing that they do NOT look like India Blue feathers. I took a closer look at the feathers today and got some pictures (poor lighting, though, but you can still tell that they are not the regular India Blue brown), and then also looked at Brad Legg's photo gallery and found a picture of an Opal White-Eyed, which is the only chick photo of the Opal variety.

Here's the pics:
Opal White-Eyed chick from Brad Legg's photos, see how the feathers are a silvery grey with the light orange-ish color?

And mine, Casper, with the same greyish orangeish... (Click to enlarge photos)

Donn has Opal Silver Pied, and I'm wondering if he mislabeled them? What do you think? Anyone with Opal babies who agree or disagree?

So far, I'm thrilled, because I'm almost certain that it's going to be Opal, which is my absolute favorite color variety!!!! <3 Thanks everyone! :)

My two straight Opal hens I hatched last year was an off grey color when hatched.Granted I have 2 Opal b/s breeding hens this year that are 1 year older than my two Opals hatched last year, but the only give away the b/s opals are opals at all is they do have the same off gray colored feathers in their tail.Next year the 2 young Opal hens will go in with my Opal b/s threesome,,one of the Opals thats 1 year old has a white throat patch so she does carry pied. That opens the door to get Opal b/s,Opal,and Opal pieds,,,can't wait!!
I have two silver pied hens that are not b/s,,the color silver showing in both of them is very close to my 1 yr old Opal hens. They are too close to call if we had one feather from each bird side by side.

I CAN'T WAIT!!! That stupid track and confirm thing won't update! I'm sitting over hear biting all my nails off! Haha I'm such a worried mother. :)

Well it is a silver pied and it doesn't look like IB so I would someone made a booboo or he decided to send you that one instead. The best way to find out for sure is to ask Donn. I don't think he is going to drive to your house and demand it back LMAO! Send him a copy of those pictures and see what he says, doesn't hurt to ask right? why wait LOL

We have hatched many silver pied and the color you are refering to I have seen in silver pied chicks. It will more than likely change. And become green or blue markings where you are seeing the immature plumage.
And if it does not change to green/blue you might have something else.

I'll probably ask Donn, gotta take some better pictures first. Casper certainly is a looker though, and quite a ham. :)
