Good Morning Everyone!

I have two recently hatched chicks that are showing signs similar to spraddle leg (they are not quite 24 hours old). Their legs are not spread out wide like spraddle leg but rather they are placing their weight on their bottoms so that when they move their legs (which they are actively trying to do) they are simply extending their legs too far forward and paddling away ineffectively.

It seems to me that they need to learn to bend their legs at the elbow and learn to put their legs under themselves not forward... but how to help them with this.

Ideas would be welcome!!

Not sure.
Upload a pic of your legs for us (just make sure to shave first).:gig

As for the chicks, personally I've never seen spraddle legs that the legs stick out forward like they are sitting on their little keisters.
Someone here will be along shortly with more spraddle knowledge than I do. Good luck! :hugs

OMG Hahaaa… that gave me a proper giggle ty :)

I've just finished putting some vet wrap on the little guys - the same hobble treatment you'd give for spraddle - to see if that does help them. And will visit them periodically to give them a little encouragement to sit on their feet instead of behind them. Could be a distracting day :caf :wee:jumpy

I've been giving these little guys a bit of periodic "therapy" today, gently moving their legs in a natural way and encouraging them to sit "on" their legs rather than "behind" their legs. Here is a pic of one of them this morning. I'd had a wee bit of progress.. after each therapy session they'd do a bit of a wobbly stand on their legs then revert to sitting again.... Untiiiiiill...

A moth was silly enough to fly into the enclosure and land on the floor. Well little black chicken you see below flapped his wings excitedly.. launched himself at the moth and snaffled it up with his beak, thrashing it about rather viciously! The rest of the chicks raced in and stole his prize but then he realised.. heeeeyy… this is this standing business that everyone else does.. and he spent the next five minutes doing his own little wobbly walk around! :thumbsup Guess all he needed was a little motivation? LOL. :yesss:
