Do I have the most temperamental hens on the planet????

UGH! My two hens had been on egg-strike for well over a month... NO eggs at all (apparently mad about a food switch). FINALLY at least one of them started laying... got about 6 eggs in two weeks. Better than nothing I thought. Well... apparently moving my two pullets out into the coop was enough to make them go on strike again. UGH! I'm off to buy eggs once again. I don't think my ladies realize that this is supposed to be a give & take exchange... I give them food... they give me eggs. Oh well... hopefully they come around soon. Little snots!

PS... the pullets are separated from the hens, and I let the older gals keep the same side of the coop as they usually spend their time in... didn't move boxes or anything. UGH! I'd pull my feathers out if I had any! LOL

Maybe you should put a bumper sticker in their coop - the one that says "My pet makes me breakfast"

over the winter i was buying both feed AND eggs, and that makes me mad....not an egg in sight...i posted an eviction notice on the coop, demanding back rent AND front rent and all kinds of rent, payable in eggs. did not work. should have translated notice to chicken, i guess.

kittikatti69- You have brats! Glad Mine are not that temperamental! lol I'm sure they'll start laying any day now. Might just be too much excitement w/ the new pullets.

millicent- You have to trick Maine chickens! I had a light on a timer (just a regular 100 watt) that stayed on 16 hrs a day. Got eggs all winter,

(not at the volume I do now) even though sometimes they were frozen.

For some reason shorter days cause them to lay less or not at all, but a light bulb fixes it.
