Do I have to amputate to make the one-legged thing work?

I have a chicken that I am realizing is never going have use of one leg. it just drags and has no movement, sensation, or even reflex. I know he can be OK with one leg, but is amputation necessary or can I let it just drag?

I would be concerned that the damaged leg could get injured and infected and risk septicemia (blood poisoning).

Do you have a vet that could help?

My livestock vet obviosly doesn't know chickens. She said his crop was "swelling". I explained that's how birds eat. I'm sadly not kidding.
