This is my first coop build in progress. It's in the South end of a two level pole barn.


The three walled inner coop has a South facing opening. The entire area will be fenced top to bottom. I'm seeing a lot of information on open air coops, but almost all of the pics on this site are of enclosed coops. I plan to try the deep litter method. I live in East TN, so extreme winters are not an issue. Thanks.
 
No. It sounds like you've got a handle on your weather. Most chickens in the south would do better with that type of build. If by some freak of nature you have a snowstorm and it blows into the coop, you can just staple up some heavy plastic over the open side.
 
That's what I thought based on everything I've read. Like everything else, the coop I end up with will be a lot different than the one I started building. Thanks for the reply.
