My chickens are about to start laying so when they do start laying do they need oyster shell?

Hey Easter eggers,

Congrats that they will soon be laying for you. My thought would be put oyster shell out---if they need them they will eat them, if they don't they will last a long time. Alternatively, you could take shells from eggs you use daily and break them up---they contain the same Calcium Carbonate that the chickens need, you would be recycling and your chickens would produce a supply.

I have to say that mine prefer egg shell to oyster shell.... I have a cup out with oyster shell and one with egg shell.
